Why Copenhagen Pride?
Trustpilot was built on the values of being Open to All, Positively Human, Collaborative, and acting Always with Integrity.
And it’s these values we’re keeping in mind as we continue our journey to getting Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) right, across our business.
In the latest step of our DEI journey, we’re really proud to announce we’re an official sponsor of Copenhagen Pride this summer. Copenhagen is the birthplace of Trustpilot, a city which has been so welcoming to our business and Trusties. So it’s a fitting location for us to make clear, to everyone, our commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ people and communities.
The result of Trustpilot’s partnership with Copenhagen Pride will be seen throughout the Pride week from 13-21 August in the form of workshops and various events happening throughout Copenhagen city, with our efforts culminating on 20 August, when Trustpilot will join the Pride march together with other supporting businesses and LGBTQ+ organisations.
Why Pride is so important
In June 1969, the Stonewall riots took place. These were a series of protests by people from the LGBTQ+ community and their allies in response to a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village in New York City. This act of standing up against inequality and discrimination was a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history, and served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States, and around the world.
But that doesn't mean that equality was achieved or that harassment and discrimination has stopped. That is why we continue to commemorate, celebrate and acknowledge Pride month, to spotlight the experiences of real people and the impact hate, prejudice, and intolerance can have on people's lives.
At Trustpilot, we've held a number of events across our global teams this year to commemorate Pride month. These include launching Trust Space, a virtual event held globally providing Trusties with a safe space to ask questions, learn from and connect with one another about LGBTQ+ issues. A non-binary Trustie and transgender Trustie acted as speakers, sharing their stories and lived experience as LGBTQ+ people, and their openness and candidness made for a powerful event.
In London, we also hosted Trustievision, a musical games night and lip sync contest hosted by professional drag queen and lip sync assassin, Soroya Marchelle. This was the first time some of our UK Trusties saw a drag artist perform!
Our commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ people and causes
But of course, we recognise that to be a truly inclusive workplace, meaningful action is needed alongside the fun stuff. And that’s why we continually work to make both the Trustpilot platform and our workplace a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for all. We’re investing in a culture where everyone, including our Trusties, can feel free to express themselves and love who they want. We know progress only happens when everyone’s voice is heard and talent is recognised.
That’s why last year we launched Pride & Allies, our employee resource group dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ Trusties and causes. We’re proud to say that our Pride & Allies committee is also working in tandem with other vital employee resource groups, Trusties in Color (for people of color and those who would like to learn how to be better allies), and Trustpilot Women In Leadership, or TWIL (for women at Trustpilot). The cross collaboration of these groups is ensuring DEI is placed at the heart of our company strategy and decision making for our future.
Other actions we’re taking include working proactively with our colleagues across the business to ensure that our policies and procedures are fully inclusive, removing gendered language, and committing to equality on issues such as parental leave for LGBTQ+ parents. We also offer all Trusties two volunteering days per year, where they can go out and support their local communities and causes which are close to their hearts.
On top of this, we're committed to educating ourselves and all Trusties in all aspects of DEI, through the use of Blinkist recommendations, LinkedIn Learning programs and expanding our Trust Space events.
But we know our work doesn’t end here. The fight to support LGBTQ+ issues and achieve equality is constantly evolving, and we promise to work with our Pride & Allies employee resource group to take responsibility and ensure we’re doing all we can to ensure the voices of LGBTQ+ people are heard and equality is achieved - both at Trustpilot and in the wider world.
We’re partnering with Copenhagen Pride because we know that achieving and maintaining equal rights for all is something that really matters – together we are better.
